Homeopathy and the Treatment of Grief
Grief is never one-size-fits-all. This article explores how homeopathy gently supports your unique experience of loss, helping restore emotional and physical balance.
Gentle, natural support tailored to your unique experience of loss
Understanding Grief Through a Homeopathic Lens
Homeopathy offers meaningful support for grief, using a wide range of remedies to address the many stages and expressions of emotional loss. The process begins with a homeopathic consultation, where the full picture of your experience of mental, emotional and physical is carefully considered.
Common Symptoms and Causes of Grief
Grief may present as shock, numbness, sadness, anger, guilt, or isolation. The causes vary: the loss of a loved one, unfair or unkind treatment, heartbreak from a failed relationship, financial upheaval, betrayal, or deep disappointment. Homeopathy also considers your thought patterns, emotional responses, sleep and dietary habits, overall health, sensitivity to your environment, and energy levels.
The Individual Nature of Loss
This holistic perspective matters because homeopathy is based on individualisation. For example, some people carry grief in silence, while others express it through tears or bursts of anger. One person might eat and drink excessively; another may lose all appetite or avoid alcohol. Some seek solitude and find comfort in sad music, while others suppress their feelings and avoid anything that reminds them of what happened. Some find movement helpful, while others feel deeply fatigued.
Tailoring Remedies to Your Experience
Understanding the unique way you experience grief is at the heart of remedy selection. There are many homeopathic remedies that reflect different states of grief. Identifying your individual experience on a mental, emotional and physical level is essential in selecting the remedy that can support and gently rebalance your overall wellbeing.
🪻 Homeopathic Remedies for Grief

Homeopathy & the Treatment of Stress
Stress affects everyone differently, but you don’t have to manage it alone. This post explores how homeopathy offers natural, tailored support for stress, anxiety and emotional overwhelm. Learn how individualised remedies can gently guide you back to a greater sense of calm and balance.
Homeopathic Treatment of Stress
Homeopathy offers a natural and individualised approach to managing stress. It recognises that stress affects each of us differently, mentally, emotionally and physically. The way you think, feel, and respond to stress is central to the process of selecting a suitable remedy.
During a consultation, I’ll also consider your medical history, causative factors, family background and personal constitution. All of this contributes to the remedy selection process.
Individual Responses to Stress
No two people experience stress in the same way. Take public speaking, for example. While it may trigger nausea, dizziness and sweating in one person, it could cause stuttering and breathlessness in another.
This level of individualisation is essential in homeopathy. Your personal stress profile helps narrow down the remedy selection from the many options available. Each homeopathic remedy has its own distinct emotional and physical pattern, and selecting the correct one depends on how your symptoms show up for you.

ANXIETY REMEDIES
Arsencium: The main feeling is that the world is a threatening and chaotic place and Arsenicum feels weak and defenceless within it. This vulnerable feeing leads to loneliness and dependency on others with a constant need for reassurance. Arsenicum has specific fears and anxieties of robbers, poverty and being left alone. There is also characteristic anxiety around health and dying, leading to a hypochondriacal anxiety. Restlessness can be strong in Arsenicum and it is also one of the main remedies for compulsive behaviour.
Aconite: The main feeling of Aconite is of a sudden and intense threat. This is an acute state of anxiety filled mental excitability and hurriedness. This can arise from a fear of walking across a busy street, of an accident, of suffocation, or that you are about to die. When triggered, fear and nervousness rise quickly leading to panic attacks and difficult breathing (shortness of breath). Often the feeling is one of a life and death situation. Aconite avoids crowds, crossing the street and any situation that would excite the mind.
Arg nit: Caused by a sudden danger where you must respond in a crisis, which excites impulsive, restless and nervous behaviour. This could arise in a crowd of people, in closed spaces, tunnels, bridges, aeroplanes, any place that is blocked or high places. Arg nit is anxious to be in control in critical situations so that they can find their way out, for example they will sit near an exit in a theatre or in an aisle seat of public transport to escape quickly. Any kind of situation where the Arg nit feels trapped will trigger an impulse to get out of this situation.
Stramonium: Causations include witnessing death, violence and life threatening situations (PTSD). Stramonium feels helpless, as though abandoned and left in a terrifying place. Fear of darkness and a longing for sunshine, light and company is strong. They don’t recognise anyone, they just cling to whatever and whoever is there. They feel alone, lost and try to escape a perceived terrifying situation. Stramonium lives in fear that there is some kind of immediate danger, they feel disorientated, they stammer, and will kick, bite and scratch to escape. Specific fears of violence, cemeteries, ghosts, water, suffocation, strangers, demons, tunnels and animals.

With the incredible popularity and growth of homeopathy over the last 15 to 20 years, the profession has been under increasing pressure to provide scientific evidence to substantiate the effectiveness of its treatment. And although the action of homeopathic remedies has yet to be discovered, this push to provide high quality evidence has led to enormous development in the field of homeopathic research.
The Homeopathic Research Institute has been instrumental in leading this field, focussing on the key questions: How does homeopathy work? What can homeopathy treat? Scientists, doctors and homeopathic clinicians working with HRI are looking for answers to these key questions, using the most rigorous methods available. The HRI is an innovative international charity created to address the need for high quality scientific research in homeopathy. The charity was founded by physicist, Dr Alexander Tournier, who previously worked as an independent researcher for Cancer Research UK, conducting interdisciplinary research at the boundaries between mathematics, physics and biology.
According to the British Homeopathic Association there is a growing body of published research in good quality peer-reviewed journals showing that homeopathy has a positive effect. However, homeopathic research is still in its infancy. The body of evidence that exists shows that much more investigation is required – 44% of all the randomised controlled trials carried out have been positive, 5% negative and 47% inconclusive. Unfortunately, homeopathy does not attract large amounts of funding and more funding is required to conduct high quality trials using suitable research methods.

Facts About Homeopathic Remedies
- There are more than 4,000 homeopathic medicines.
- Every true homeopathic medicine is made using one substance -- whether plant, animal or mineral.
- Remedies are commonly made by crushing a plant, animal or mineral substance then putting it into a solvent such as grain alcohol.
- Insoluble solids, such as quartz and oyster shell, are diluted by grinding them with lactose.
- The extract is then further diluted in a mixture of alcohol and water. The process is repeated many times to achieve a therapeutic dilution.
- After each dilution the mixture is vigorously agitated in a machine or by hand that delivers a calibrated amount of shaking. This is called succussion.
- The process of succussion is believed to leave an energetic imprint of the medicinal substance throughout the body of water.
- Remedies can be administered in many forms, including tablets, ointments, liquid, or sprays.
- Homeopathic remedies are non-drowsy and non-habit forming. They cause no side effects and no conflicts with other medicines.
- Homeopathy is safe for women to take during pregnancy, and safe for children and old people.
- Homeopathic remedies are cheap at around £6 per prescription.
