Homeopathy & Mental Health
Mental health touches every part of who we are. This article explores how homeopathy offers a gentle, individualised approach to emotional and psychological wellbeing.
Grief affects everyone differently. This article explores how homeopathy offers gentle, individualised support for loss, with brief remedy sketches to give a sense of the approach.
Mental health isn't separate from physical health. The way we think, feel, sleep, eat, relate to others and navigate daily life are all connected, and when something shifts in one area it tends to ripple through the others.
This interconnection is central to how homeopathy approaches mental and emotional wellbeing. Rather than isolating a symptom or a diagnosis, we look at the whole picture of who you are and how you're experiencing what you're going through. The remedy that helps one person with anxiety may be entirely different from what helps another, because the experience itself is different.
What homeopathy can support
Homeopathy is used across a broad range of mental and emotional presentations, including anxiety and panic, depression, burnout and emotional exhaustion, PTSD and trauma, obsessive or compulsive patterns, and behavioural and emotional difficulties in children.
This isn't a complete list. If you're struggling with something that doesn't fit neatly into a category, that's actually where homeopathy tends to work best, because it's built around the individual rather than the diagnosis.
What a consultation involves
The first consultation is a real conversation. We explore not just your symptoms but how you experience them, what makes things better or worse, how your mental and emotional state affects your body, your sleep, your appetite, your energy. We look at what preceded the difficulties and what sustains them.
From that picture a remedy is selected that reflects your individual state as closely as possible.
A few of the remedies used in mental health
Arsenicum album suits people whose anxiety is rooted in a sense of vulnerability and threat. There is often restlessness, a need for reassurance, fears around health and safety, and a compulsive need for order and control.
Argentum nitricum is often indicated in anticipatory anxiety, the kind that arrives before events, performances or situations where something is at stake. Impulsiveness, nervousness and a tendency toward worst-case thinking are common.
Aurum metallicum addresses deep, dark depression, particularly in people who hold themselves to high standards and feel they have failed. There can be a profound heaviness, a sense that life has lost its meaning.
Aconite comes into its own in acute panic states, sudden overwhelming fear, palpitations, breathlessness, the sense that something terrible is about to happen.
Stramonium is used in more intense states of fear and trauma, particularly where there are night terrors, flashbacks, disorientation or a feeling of being trapped in darkness.
These are brief sketches only. Remedy selection depends on the full picture of who you are and how you're experiencing what you're going through.
